Northwoods Cross Country Skiing
Whether you enjoy classical, skating, touring or backcountry skiing,
 the Northwoods offers the best cross country skiing in the Midwest. The 
snows often come early (mid November) and leave late (early April) providing

The vast majority of Wisconsin's NorthWoods and the Upper Peninsula is publicly held as national, state and county forest, with thousands of acres to explore. Whether you choose a meticulously groomed trail, a skied-in trail or just want to go it on your own in the backcountry, the NorthWoods offers that "Winter Wonderland" experience. 

In the last few years, snowshoeing has also become a very popular winter activity in the NorthWoods. Snowshoes certainly provide an easy way for the novice to enjoy our  winter landscape.

Ski right from your door on 11 miles of privately owned trails connected to the Phelps Ski Trail in the Nicolet National Forest. Meticulously groomed 6 times a week for striding and skate skiing. Especially recommended for early season skiing. Also, offers snowshoe trails and rentals.

ABR Trails are located on over 400 acres of private land of varied terrain. A trailhead warming cabin is available. Piston Bully groomed for skating and diagonal striding. Especially recommended for early season skiing.

This is one of the oldest and most popular cross-country ski trails in the Eagle River area. Trails are groomed for traditional style-skiing as well as ski-skating. Several loops are available over varied terrain from easy to difficult. Bring sunflower seeds to feed the Chickadees at the warming cabin. They land right on your hand.

11.5 MILES Groomed and tracked for Classical only, very hilly and rolling. Very scenic. Winds around five (5) different lakes, and through stands of maple, balsam & aspen. A couple of steep hills. Shelter and fire ring. INTERMEDIATE. Excellent Classical skiing trail.

The Listening Inn Trails are open with 14k of Groomed classical trail. Trails are marked with 2 Beginner loops. This trail is over various terrian, Hardwoods, Pines , Peterson creek views and open meadows. We Groom our trails with a snowmachine and a Tidd-Tech groomer.

Minocqua Winter Park Nordic Center is Wisconsin's most fun family cross-country ski Center. Minocqua Winter Park offers something for every level of skier, from the first time skier to the expert and for skiers of every age. The beautiful glaciated terrain in Wisconsin's Northwoods offers the skier a variety of terrain choices from flat and gentle rolling terrain to exhilarating hills that will take your breath away.

Fifteen miles of trail are groomed and tracked  for traditional-style as well as ski-skating style. The Nicolet North Trail is connected to the Anvil National Recreation Trail. If you are looking to get away from the crowds, this trail is for you.
 
North Lakeland Discovery Center

Currently, the Discovery Center maintains a 19km trail system for mountain biking, hiking and cross country skiing. Our terrain is gentle and winds through the woods, along the lake, bog and nearby Manitowish River allowing you to explore a variety of habitats each with their own unique plants and animals. In the winter the trails are groomed and tracked after each snowfall and before weekends for some of the best striding in the Northwoods. We have PSIA certified ski instruction by appointment if you are interested. We also have a warming/changing room with free hot apple cider and cookies to stoke your stove between laps. We ALSO have snowshoe rentals and are surrounded by hundreds of acres of forests, lakes, and bogs for you to Discover. Our trails are open to the public 7 days a week.
